Chinese visit

On 18 November, Maritime Greenwich welcomed a delegation from the Chinese World Heritage Site, West Lake Cultural Landscape of Hangzhou.

The 18 strong delegation, led by Mr Derong Sun, Deputy Director of the West Lake Cultural Landscape of Hangzhou World Heritage Site Management Committee, toured the Old Royal Naval College (ORNC) including Discover Greenwich Visitor Centre, The Painted Hall and Chapel and the Royal Observatory Greenwich (ROG).The delegation were specifically interested in heritage protection, conservation and sustainable management of World Heritage Sites and were keen to learn about policy, funding models, volunteer schemes, management plans and marketing.

Brief talks were given by Peter Marsden, Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site Coordinator, William Palin, Conservation Director, ORNC, Sarah Duthie, Public Engagement Director, ORNC and Louise Devoy, Curator, ROG. A lively and interesting tour of the ORNC site was conducted by Daren Clarke, Volunteer Explainer.

The visit was arranged by UEC Cross Culture Links, a  non-profit making organisation of British and Chinese experts which promotes exchange between Britain and China.
